Somerset Region is a local government area in the southeast region of Queensland, Australia. The region is located approximately 100 kilometers northwest of Brisbane and covers an area of 5,461 square kilometers.

The history of the Somerset region dates back to the early 19th century when European settlement began in the area. The region was originally home to several Aboriginal tribes, including the Turrbal, Jagera, and Wakka Wakka people.

During the mid-1800s, the region was mainly utilized for timber and agriculture. In 1860, the town of Kilcoy was established as a major center for the production and distribution of timber. By the turn of the 20th century, the region had become a major player in the Australian timber industry, producing high-quality timber for export to England and other parts of the world.

In the 1930s and 1940s, the region underwent a significant transformation with the construction of several large hydroelectric power stations. The Wivenhoe Dam, built during this time, created a large reservoir that has become a popular recreational area for locals and tourists alike.

Following the end of World War II, the demand for timber and other wood products declined, leading to a decline in the local economy. During the 1950s and 1960s, the region began to shift towards more diverse industries, including agriculture, tourism, and manufacturing.

Today, the Somerset region is home to a vibrant and diverse community, with a strong focus on sustainable economic growth and development. The region boasts a vibrant arts and culture scene, excellent educational facilities, and a strong tourism industry that brings visitors from all over Australia and the world.

The region also has several well-known wineries and breweries, as well as a range of culinary options that showcase the region's rich history and cultural heritage.

Overall, the Somerset region has a rich and diverse history that continues to shape the region today.
